About me
Hey there! I'm Scott, and like many in tech, my path hasn't always been a straight line. I've navigated the space between design and development, sometimes feeling like I didn't fit neatly into either box. I've discovered that my strength lies in bridging those worlds—crafting intuitive and accessible experiences grounded in a solid understanding of the web's foundation (HTML & CSS mastery) and building the scalable design languages that bring consistency and efficiency to digital products.
Beyond the code and pixels, I'm deeply passionate about empowering growth in others and believe in the power of clear, collaborative work (leading with collaboration & clarity). I'm also driven by a desire to ensure that what we build not only looks good but also delivers real product vision to user value.
This newsletter is where I share my journey and insights on these topics—from the nitty-gritty of design systems to the broader strategies for building better digital experiences and finding your own unique place in tech. If you're curious about creating more human-centered, scalable, and accessible digital products, or if you've ever felt like a generalist in this industry, you're in the right place. Let's learn and grow together.
What I do
Design Systems: I architect systems that promote consistency, flexibility, and accessibility, from foundational tokens to complex component variants.
UX Engineering: I turn research and wireframes into robust, inclusive interfaces using React, TypeScript, and design tooling like Figma and Storybook.
Accessibility: I build with empathy and compliance in mind, applying WCAG guidelines and inclusive interaction patterns.
Mentorship & Strategy: I mentor designers and developers on best practices and help product stakeholders align design, development, and business goals.
My journey
2020-Present: Leading frontend development and UX design at UK HealthCare, building SPAs and a shared design system.
2017-2020: Designed interactive experiences and accessible themes for higher education at the University of Kentucky.
2015-2017: Built web applications for nonprofits at Suran Systems.
Tools I use
Figma, Storybook, Tokens Studio, React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and more.
Mission
Every interface should be inclusive by default, every component should be built carefully, and every system should serve people and platforms. I aim to help organizations create digital ecosystems where consistency and creativity coexist.
